Travel Insurance Can Save Your Vacation

Travel insurance is useful for simple nuisance problems like lost luggage to more serious problems like needing to be evacuated by air ambulance back to your home country for a serious medical condition. It doesn't make much sense to spend a lot of hard earned cash on a much needed vacation and then see it all go down the drain because you don't want to spend a fraction of the cost of the trip on insuring it. Time and unforeseen circumstance can happen to anybody at any time.

Travel insurance can cover a number of situations:

You need emergency evacuation or transportation
Lost, damaged or stolen luggage
A medical emergency in a foreign country
A death is a foreign country
Bad weather such as hurricanes or earthquakes
Your cruise line, airline or tour operator goes into bankruptcy
You lose your travel documents, passports
Your trip is cancelled by unexpected events
You cause property damage, death or injury to someone else
Trip delay
Loss of prescription medication and the need to replace quickly
Travel accident insurance
Loss of personal effects
Overseas medical/hospital expenses
Permanent disabilities
Cash stolen from your person
Alternate transportation expenses in the event of flight cancellation etc

Before you look at travel insurance of any kind, make sure you know what coverage you already may have with your credit cards, extended medical plans, homeowner insurance, etc. For example, some credit cards will offer coverage on rental cars, so getting insured by the rental agency may simply be a waste. However, make sure you read the fine print to understand the credit cards terms exactly and then decide if you need additional coverage or not. Spend your money only in areas where you need to in order to supplement what you may already be paying for.

Where ever possible, get insurance that has someone available on the other end on a 24 hour, "911' emergency call basis to assist you with whatever emergency you run into. Having someone "back home" working on your situation can be a real blessing in an emergency.

Any trip can be cut short by events beyond our control. Accident, illness or an act of nature can cause an unexpected, expensive interruption or cancellation of a costly vacation. Travel insurance will protect your investment both before and during your trip. It will also make your vacation that much more enjoyable, knowing you are as prepared as possible for unexpected events.

don't forget to get travel insurance before your vacation

Before you head off to a much needed vacation or a trip to the cottage, make sure you have adequate boat insurance to keep peace of mind.
