Recreational Vehicle Insurance

Motor homes, campers, trailers and caravans are all classed as "recreational vehicles" and that includes any enclosed piece of living space and equipment with wheels where people can live, usually temporarily while on vacation or traveling. Collapsible campers, Conversion vans, Truck campers and Mini-Motor homes are other examples.

An RV can be quite an investment and there is definitely a need to protect that valuable asset with an insurance policy.

The RV policy is usually tailored to your particular living arrangements and lifestyle.

Besides the standards of liability and personal property insurance you can also find trip cancellation or interruption coverage, coverage on personal belongings or attached accessories on the recreational vehicles. Don't make the mistake of believing your automobile insurance will cover everything or that your home policy will cover the items lost from an RV. The hime policy may in fact limit the payout if any items are not kept in the primary residence. Remember that your home insurance policy can be affected by things like having burglar or fire alarms in the home, something you may not have in your RV. And your automobile insurance may not cover the RV losses in full especially since it is a different type of vehicle. Read your home and auto policy to ensure adequate coverage and ask if there are any additions you can get. It may not add much to either policy and getting insured after a disaster won't work.

Also check to see if you are covered for small trailers, bikes you may carry or even snowmobile you may take with you during your RV trip. Often you can get the insurance to cover those types of equipment as well but always better to ask than be surprised. 

And make sure you can get money quickly or some help to rent a vehicle if yours is stolen or you need help getting back home quickly in case of a family emergency. You may never need to use this coverage but you will sure be happy if it becomes a necessity at some point in your trip.
