Get Help When Illness Strikes

Health insurance is another of those things that you hope you never have to use. It offers you financial protection from catastrophic financial losses that can result from the onslaught of a major illness or a disease that strikes you down. But then again, it may not be a disease that affects the bread winner[s] in the family at all. It may be a cancer that strikes the youngest member and puts a financial drain on the resources of the entire family.

Of course, health insurance today often offers coverage for everyday medical bills and expenses as well. Many workers today have health insurance through their work - this is termed group insurance. If you don't have group insurance or if you feel you need more coverage than you are offered or given, then you need to look for personal health insurance for you and your loved ones.

There are several things you can consider when shopping for health insurance:

	Check to see what the health insurance plan covers. Does it cover ALL diseases, leave some out or only pay for a single disease like cancer?
	Make sure you have a time period to reconsider AFTER you sign up. Sometimes pressure tactics or misrepresentation can occur-take the time to check out that you are getting what you wanted and paid for!
	Make sure you are protected for the larger medical cost that can occur -a whole bunch of small ones may look good at first but leave you financially drained in today's world of high medical costs!
	Make sure you know the date the policy starts -is there any waiting time before money is paid out for an illness - will it kick in wherever you happen to be, in country, out of country?
	Will you be able to live on the payout if you can't work for a long period of time, if ever?
	Don't wait until you or a loved one is in the hospital to find out your plan doesn't cover certain medical needs such as a private bed or expensive medication.

 Don't hesitate to shop around and compare policies and coverage. And don't hesitate to let the insurers know you are shopping around. Make them sharpen their pencils and give you an excellent rate if they want your business. This is your money, your family and your future. Do everything you can to get the best for your loved ones and get the best health insurance the money you can spend will buy!
